A very Happy Birthday Sophie! You've grown into a wonderful adult and we are so proud of you. We all love you to bits!
This picture was taken when you were only 8 months old and we had very little idea of what being a parent was going to be like.
It has definitely been the hardest and most brilliant thing that I have ever done. Thank you for choosing me to be your mum!

We went to visit Sophie on Sunday to take her out for lunch and shower her with presents and cards. It was also the first time that I had seen her new flat. The weather was wonderful and sunny but bitterly cold.
I loved the front door - it was absolutely huge! Even the pavements were oversized, the curb was about 2 feet off the ground. Remnants of a bye-gone age when travel was by horse and coach I imagine.
The view from the front door shows the promenade of houses built round a square.
Beautifully carved stonework.
Tim you're not the smallest anymore!
I thought we were never going to get to the top! Was that six flights of stairs!!
But worth it when you get to the top. This is the view Sophie has when she is hard at work with her books.
And now the birthday bit. A caterpillar cake (sorry you can't see his face) which was very chocolatey and very, very gooey.
I hope you have a lovely day today!
Mum

How sweet and wonderful! Congratulations to Sophie and to you, too, Ros!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad.. I mean watching our children grow up is amazing, but letting them go is so hard. I am struggling with my daughter turning 17 in 2 weeks because I know the next one she will be 18 and going away to college... my only baby. I can relate. I said, are you going to leave me, and she said, well YES, I have to go away to college. I said, good, I will come with you. She didn't like that.. I am not going to mention what she said...
ReplyDeleteI hope Sophie had a very good birthday.

Happy Birthday Sophie, and Happy Special day to you Ros, cos you brought her into the world so that means a special day for you too. What a fabulous place to live, lucky Sophie. You see I don;t think it is sad at all, you have brought her up to be a forward thinking young lady and have sent her out into the big wide world now. Enjoy it Sophie, and mum, enjoy the peace and space, she will be back...often. lol Jan
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Sophie! May life bring you all the happiness and opportunities it can offer!

I'm just blog-hopping around on this snowy day (on Long Island) and wanted to wish your beautiful daughter a lovely 21st birthday. As this is officially the start of 'adult' life, I wish her many, many, many decades of health and happiness!
ReplyDeleteI know this is a bit belated- internet access is a bit iffy- but thank you so much for this post :) it really put a smile on my face. Sophie x
