Postcard Swap

My postcard to Angela F. for this month's postcard swap on the Popular Patchwork website. The theme this time is 'Science'. I have been through so many ideas (solar system, famous scientists: Leonardo da Vinci and Gallileo, Stem Cells/IVF/Cloning/Ultrasound) then I finally hit on this one. Do you recognise it? The Eden Project in Cornwall. We visited when it first opened in about 2002 and I would love to go again now everything is more established.

Kerstin in Germany sent me this card of Einstein. Isn't 'he' amazing! She used 'thread painting' to do this masterpiece. Click on it and get a closer look. Thank you Kerstin, I love it!

Happy 20th Birthday Sophie!

Farewell Fr Raphael

Fr Raphael O'Connell, ODC
1933-2009

Today we said our fond farewell to Fr Raphael
who spent most of the last 30 years in the parish of St Joseph's.
Rest In Peace.

God is love, and all who live in love live in God,
and god lives in them.
And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect.
So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment,
but can face him with confidence because
we live like Jesus here in this world.
1 John 4:17

My lovely friend Maureen, who doesn't have a blog, asked me to add this beautiful comment:

Fr. Raphael - a very special friend to me over many years. This picture captures something of his inner beauty and brought a smile to my face. Although I will never hear his voice again, his words of wisdom echo in my head and he seems just as close to me as he ever was. And now I have a photo of him to keep too, so thank you.

Visiting Sophie in Bristol

Tim, Sophie and Mike

Our half term visit to Sophie this weekend was a lovely time! She is a second year music student at the University of Bristol. This is the wonderful halls of residence she lives in! (Wills Hall). She is lucky enough to have a top floor room overlooking the quad!

Front aspect of the Hall.

The chapel, which is used for music practice too.

A trip around the grounds.

On top of the hill looking down the valley over Bristol.

The sun breaking through the tree-lined driveway.

The Warden's Garden.

Lunch at Brown's Bistro.
A favourite for students when their parents come to visit!

Happy to see each other!

A walk around Stoke Bishop High Street and Wills Memorial Building - what an amazing place!

Next year Sophie would love to live in the Chaplaincy.
This would be much nearer to the music department and would give her more independence.

The Students' Union (aka Holby City!!)

Victoria Rooms (aka the music department).

He's a grand chap to welcome you!

So you can see we all had a lovely day and were sad to come home. Isn't she a lucky girl having such a wonderful place to study at!! Aren't we blessed to have such lovely children!!

Bush Fire Quilts

These little stacks of hexagons are on their way to Robyn of
Daisy Quilts/Hexagons of Hope for people affected by the bush fires in Australia. Please check out her blog to see if there is any way you can help.

PS The cost of postage from UK (airmail) to Oz for this little parcel (50 hexagons) plus a greeting card came to UK£1.64 if anyone needs to know this.

As each one has received a gift,
minister it to one another,
as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
1 Peter 4:10

Viva a Vida

All the blocks have been completed and the layout agreed on. Each block has been catalogued to make sure it goes back to its correct place! By the end of the day most of the rows had been sewn together.

We have had almost no problems matching up the blocks, which is amazing as 18 people have been involved! The hand-sewing has been beautiful and the blocks are all square.

Thank you ladies!

You are special!

In all the world there is nobody, nobody like you.
Since the beginning of time there has never been another person like you.

Nobody has your smile, your eyes, your hands, your hair.
Nobody owns your handwriting, your voice.

You're Special.

Nobody can paint your brush strokes.
Nobody has your taste for food or music or dance or art.
Nobody in the universe sees things as you do.

In all time there has never been anyone who laughs in exactly your way,
and what makes you laugh or cry or think may have a totally different response in another.

So - You're Special.

You're different from any other person who has ever lived in the history of the Universe.
You are the only one in the whole creation who has your particular set of abilites.
There is always someone who is better than you in at least one thing or another.

Every person is your superior in at least one way,
but nobody in the Universe can reach the quality of the combination
of your talents, your feelings.

Like a roomful of musical instruments some might excel in one way or another
but nobody can match the symphonic sound when all are played together.
Your symphony.

Through all eternity no one will ever walk, talk, think or do exactly like you.

You're Special.

You're rare, and in all rarity there is enormous value
and because of your great value the need for you
to imitate anyone else is absolutely wrong.
You're special and it is no accident that you are.

Please realise that God made you for a special purpose.
He has a job for you to do that nobody else can do as well as you can.
Out of the billions of applicants only one is qualified.

Only one has the unique and right combination of what it takes
and that one is YOU.

You're Very special!

Celebrate You!

You are worth celebrating

You are worth everything

You are unique!

This poem was given to me by a very dear friend
Sue Whitehead
who tells me that the original writer is unknown.

Viva a Vida

This is how our Jacob's Ladder quilt is coming along. This photo was taken hanging at the window (it was a beautiful sunny day) and the colours looked amazing!

The Viva a Vida ladies are still sewing more blocks and their handiwork is beautiful!

Lety, Iliana, Benedicte, Jill

Patricia, Estelle and Julia

A slightly smaller group than last session (which numbered 17) because some of the ladies had to be elsewhere (exams, holidays, bible study/prayer group). We missed them!

We had a beautifully prepared lunch (plus dessert!) and finished the day with a trip to Helen's Workshop (our local patchwork shop).

Ros

Here is a little prayer I used with my small group at Confirmation Class on Sunday evening which I would like to share with you:

Lord, your love has been poured out in my heart
through your Holy Spirit.
Give me a heart to know you, a heart to love you,
a heart that is eager to do your work.
Flood me with your love. Amen.
